Peiping Marine part Four This is the Peking roster as of Christmas 1940. By comparing it to the 1939 Christmas roster in part one and the Thanksgiving 1940 roster from part three you can determine who has been reassigned. It is possible they were reassigned to Tientsin, elsewhere in the Pacific, to sea duty, or stateside.
Melvin Castor is shown to the right during inspection of packs. The photo was taken December of 1940.
The Chaumont and the Henderson were the two standard transports which made regular runs between the states and China, serving posts in Hawaii, Guam, the Philippines, Shanghai, and north China. They delivered troops, mail, and supplies.
Below is Doc Hoffman to the right and Ernie (?) to the left. Photo taken sometime between Nov 40 and Nov 41, probably at Peking.
To the right is Joel Jones in the power plant at Peking. Both this photo and the one above are courtesy of Joel Jones. Jones was part of the black gang as mentioned in the poem below.
In the bottom left photo the man on the right is Max Gaff. If you can identify any of the other people in the photos above please let me know. Go to Contact Us page.
